A surprise Class

JeZeBeLe Dagger | July 29, 2008

Scripted 7 Prim Gallows class

I decided to teach a course at Fermis. It’s been quite some time since i had last taught a course there. I’ve been so busy with intern training and my RL vacation that I havent had time to do my favorite activity on SL(TM) which is to teach.

Out of the blue I decided to send 2 notices. 1 to FSBU, the other to SLT (Sl teaching without borders) and we had about 8 students show up to do this course. During the set up of class several folks who speak Spainish showed up. They had a general area of interest in building. I took a few of them over to the Simbotic Translator store (since they are free) and I am told after teaching this class in English and using a translator that this specific one is much better than the babbler.

We had 8 students show up to the class every one was able to go home with a Gallows.

I am very proud on several levels.

1. that I taught my 1st course with a class that uses english as a 2nd language.

2. That everyone was workign at the same pace and completed the project

3. That I am back and eager and excited to see the amazing builds that are going to be made at Fermis and taught by University instroctors.

I can’t wait! Its good to be back!

Where in the world is Arthur Fermi

Arthur | July 28, 2008

Before we find out where I have been, let me say that, the only reason I feel comfortable being away from my wonderful Second LifeTM is the fact that the Fermi Staff is exceptional.  I am not going to name names, as I will simply miss someone, but I am exceptionally grateful for their help, support, and dedication.   To all of the Fermi staff, thank you very much, for all you do.

All of my blogs so far have been about me, Arthur Fermi.  I thought for this one I would open up a bit about my RL avatar.   So where have I been?  It is not so much of a where, as a what.

  • Last weekend of course was the opening of Batman! I’m not sure what I could add other than wow, that was one of the best movies ever.
  • I got an xbox 360 and have been enjoying that and playing a lot of games. If you don’t have it I highly recommend Gamefly (http://gamefly.com) its Netflix for video games. I have been playing Bioshock, it is a truly amazing game a mix of First Person Shooter and RPG, the story is very deep, and I felt it could be the makings of the movie. A quick check of IMDB, it seems that 2010 is when it will be out as a movie, hahaha. One side benefit is that the game is set in a 100% Art Deco world, it generated many dreams of Art Deco things. This will generate some new builds :)
  • I went to two different concerts with my family, Bryan Adams & Foreigner Thursday and Cheap Trick, Heart and Journey the next night. Just a quick summary. Cheap Trick sucked the almighty big one! Journey was great, second time seeing them. Heart, they are awesome, and better in person. Bryan Adams, I wasn’t that stoked about seeming him, I guess the repetitive replay on the radio in the 80s caused me to block how good he was/is and how many great songs he has. This brings me to Foreigner, WOW, one of the best concerts I have seen!
  • Hearing all of this you might think I was on vacation, but I wasn’t, it was a regular work week for me of about 45 hours. The week started out a bit wobbly but in the end it was a rewarding week of work! I got things accomplished, made clients happy, and got other things moving.

Is this a normal week for me? Well outside of going to a movie and 45 hours of work, no.  My life like most has a good bit of repetition in it.  This was an exceptional week, it was fun and uplifting, and strangely; for a regular work week very recharging.   You probably noticed that Second LifeTM isn’t listed there, while I spent several hours in world, it was really a nice break from my Second Life.  I think there are times when our Second Life displaces our Real Life, and I find to avoid burn out I need to escape from my Second Life for a while.   I missed the people, the sandbox, and everything that is what is great about Second Life.

The real point, I think of this blog, is as much as we all love our virtual world, never miss a chance, an opportunity to step away from the computer and enjoy your real world with your family and friends! And then of course come back for Fermi Sandbox & University :)

Random Thoughts

JeZeBeLe Dagger | July 16, 2008

Over the past 2 weeks our educational outreach and activities have been very active. I have to say I am very pleased with this progress. I am also very proud of the debut instructors who have developed lesson plans that help other builders, students or potential builders learn to advance their skills and knowledge base in creating objects, scripts or even understanding their own inventory. They have worked real diligently in manifesting a meaningful and fun activity for everyone. I am also very proud of the advanced series of courses at Fermis University.

My time on Second Life (TM) for the next 2 weeks will be spuratic at most. I dont think I will be online much at all due to Real life events. However when I am back to full force on Second Life (TM) we will be undergoing a 2nd series of Orientations involving the new intern student instructors about to debut in the coming weeks. They have been very patient in the new orientation process at FSBU.

I plan on having these orientations every month to 2 months. We will have set deadlines for applying broadcasted to the general University * Build groups at FSBU.

I’d Like to congradulate Celestine Fairey for being one of the first Interns to become a Instructor at FSBU. Shes made history.

Speaking of History Fermi’s is about to have an anniversary. So be prepared for some building fun, some great classes, events, dances and then some!

Don’t forget you can experience the various array of shopping experieces at Fermis Sim too.

Until then!

Skill build, Make it fun.

& I am going to miss you!

JeZe

Ctrl+Z = Undo (once while in edit)
Ctrl+L = Link (selected objects in edit)
Ctrl+Shift+L = Unlink (selected objects in edit)
Ctrl+U = Upload Image
Ctrl+Alt+Shift+T = Texture face

Fermi Designs Needs You!

Kai |

Fermi Designs is looking for an EXPERIENCED person to fill a Rental Manager position. The canidate must HAVE a proven record of managing rentals here in Second Life (TM). They also must love working with the public. Patience and organizational skill are also a huge must have. Would prefer the canidate to also have experience in landownership and to understand most if not all the land tools here in SL. This position is for a not for profit Sandbox and University. Therefore, you also must be wanting to help out a good cause, to be part of an awsome team of fun loving, hard working professionals that are dedicated to making SL a better place for everyone. If you are looking for a way to get rich this is not the job for you. Pay will be determined by your level of experience and will also be based on sales. Do not waste our time or yours by applying if you don not qualify or fit this desription. Please send Kai Eldrich or Arthur Fermi a notecard detailing your background and why you would like to be considered for the position.

Thank you,
Kai Eldrich
